Doctoral Portfolio

(Due at the time of Oral Comprehensive Exam)

  1. Develop an area of professional counseling expertise as demonstrated through scholarly publications and/or presentations.
    1. Present a minimum of one (1) educational session at ArCA.
    2. Submit a minimum of one (1) poster or educational session at ACA.
    3. Submit a minimum of one (1) scholarly work to an ACA or related journal.
  2. Develop collaborative relationships with program faculty in teaching, supervision, research, professional writing, and service to the profession and the public.
    1. Actively seek out opportunities to work with faculty in each of the areas identified.
  3. Foster participation in professional counseling organizations, including the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and ACA.
    1. Join and participate in an ACES Special Interest Network.
    2. Join and participate in ACA activities (i.e., conferences, Counseling Today column).
  4. Contribute to and promote scholarly counseling research.
    1. Work a minimum of one (1) semester on a university research team.
    2. Actively participate for a minimum of two (2) consecutive semesters in the CNED programmatic research agenda.
  5. Enhance technical competence.
    1. Help to develop power point presentations.
    2. Help to develop online curriculum.
  6. Participate in one (1) Government Relations (Professional Counseling Advocacy) issue (i.e. attend a seminar, write a congressman, etc.).

Portfolios are to be developed with the guidance and approval of your doctoral advisory committee.

All elements must be completed by the time oral comprehensive exam is scheduled.
Portfolios must be professionally prepared and turned into your Doctoral Committee chair at the
time Orals are scheduled.
